- "Bullied and Harassed" Players question tennis coach's actions
- A former beat partner and myself teamed up to investigate the bizarre series of transfers and player dismissals from the Penn State women's tennis team. We looked into the coach's previous job and found many of the same player complaints of being bullied and harassed that had resurfaced at PSU. Aside from a losing record, questions about the Athletic Department's hiring, parental concerns and player disapproval, the coach's questionable actions continued.

- First place, Sports News: "Grant drafted by Phoenix"
- This award is the result of my desire to inform readers about one of the lesser covered sports drafts, the WNBA. I had strong source relationships and was able to contact as many people as possible and quickly turnout a story for print publication.

- Third place, Sports Features: "Monster Energizes fans"
- The life of minor league baseball players is interesting enough, but what about the furry, energetic mascot who shows up and sleeps in a tent between innings behind the left field wall? I observed the life of the short season single-A mascot for several days and found out that his job was about more than making quick cash for the summer.

- First place, Sports features: "The Next Big Thing"
- Traveling nearly 8,000 miles to the southern most tip of the African continent to report on a story presents its own set of challenges. Language barriers, lack of available information about the topic and non-functioning technology forced me to hit the streets in search of leads and interview subjects. When I arrived at a gated basketball court in the heart of the poorest township in the country, I knew I was at the right place.

- Second place, Sports Event coverage for events leading up to and through Joe Paterno's Firing
- I worked as a football correspondent with The Reading Eagle during my senior year of college. When news of Paterno's firing broke, I was at the press conference and followed all the action in and around State College. As the night unfolded I ended up covering a riot, interviewing tearful students at Paterno's bronze statue and watched fans mourn at the former coach's doorstep.
